Joke of the Day
After Christmas Thought

A few days after Christmas, my six year son and I were talking. He asked, "Mom, is there a Santa Claus?" "Well, what do you think?" I asked him. He replied, "Well, my Playstation that I got and my gift from Santa were wrapped in the same kind of wrapping paper." He thought for a minute and said, "I'll tell you what ... you and Dad can go on buying me presents and let's just forget we ever had this talk!"

Too Much Sugar
A fellow nurse at my hospital received a call from an anxious patient. "I'm diabetic and I'm afraid I've had too much sugar today." the caller said. "Are you light-headed?" my colleague asked. "No," the caller answered, "I'm a brunette."

Sports
(4) LSU Tigers 41, (11) Notre Dame Fighting Irish 14

NEW ORLEANS -- JaMarcus Russell cocked his head, glanced toward the towering Superdome stands and soaked up the pleas of the LSU faithful.
"One more year! One more year!" they screamed.
The way the mammoth quarterback played against Notre Dame, there seems little reason for him to spend any more time in college.
Russell thoroughly outperformed Brady Quinn and sent Notre Dame to another postseason meltdown, leading No. 4 LSU to a 41-14 rout of college football's most storied program Wednesday night.
The Sugar Bowl returned to New Orleans with a Cajun-style party, which left the 11th-ranked Fighting Irish with a most unwanted spot in the record book. They lost their ninth straight bowl game, more than any other school.
"I just think," LSU coach Les Miles said, "I've got the best quarterback in the country."
Certainly he had the best on this night. The 6-foot-6, 257-pound Russell completed 21 of 34 passes for 332 yards and two touchdowns. He also had his first rushing score of the season and set up another TD with a 31-yard pass. Russell and LSU's feared defense took control after halftime, turning a tenuous 21-14 game into a laugher. The Tigers (11-2) outgained Notre Dame by a staggering 333 yards to 30 over the final two quarters. After a brilliant junior season, Russell hasn't decided whether he will return to LSU (11-2) for his senior year. But he would likely be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the draft.

Robert Yates Racing filled a new spot with an old friend.
Ricky Rudd, returning to NASCAR after a one-year break, will drive full-time on the Nextel Cup series in a second car for Robert Yates Racing, Masterfoods USA announced Thursday. Rudd, 50, will replace 1999 series champion Dale Jarrett, who signed to drive a new Toyota with Michael Waltrip Racing. Rudd drove for Yates from 2000-02 and posted three wins, 34 top-five finishes and 53 top-10s in 106 starts.
Known as NASCAR's "Iron Man," Rudd will drive a Ford Fusion sponsored by Snickers. M&M’s sponsors the Yates racing Ford driven by David Gilliland.

Wisconsin News, January 5th
Nazi to be Deported

MADISON, Wis. A Racine man accused of serving as a Nazi concentration camp guard must leave the United States. A federal judge in Milwaukee stripped 81-year-old Josias Kumpf of his U-S citizenship in May 2005. Government officials asked immigration Judge Jennie Giambastiani to deport him in July.
Giambastiani yesterday ordered him removed to Germany, Austria or Serbia.
U-S justice officials say Kumpf served as a guard at a concentration camp in Germany and at an S-S labor camp in Poland. He has testified he watched people get shot during a November 1943 massacre at the labor camp and was told to shoot anyone who tried to escape. Kumpf has a month to appeal the deportation order.

McCarthy: No time set for Favre decision
Green Bay Packers Coach Mike McCarthy said he and General Manager Ted Thompson met with Brett Favre this week and told the quarterback they want him back, but no specific time was mentioned for him to make a decision. "Brett more than anybody doesn't want to draw it out," said McCarthy at his year-end press conference Wednesday. "I felt it was important for Brett and Deanna to get away from here, take the emotion out of the decision, look at the facts on both sides of the ledger and make a 100% committed decision." McCarthy said he doesn't feel the need to talk Favre into returning. "I don't think I need to try to convince him," he said. "I think Brett has all the information he needs." According to McCarthy, Favre left for his off-season home in Mississippi on Wednesday and did not have surgery on his sore left ankle.

Man facing 8th drunken driving offense
A Green Lake County man arrested in Sheboygan will face his eighth drunken driving offense after nearly striking a squad car Wednesday night, Sgt. Brad Riddiough said in a Sheboygan Police Department press release. A 35-year-old Berlin man was arrested about 10:30 p.m. at Eighth Street and Indiana Avenue after he narrowly missed hitting a squad car in the rotary intersection, the release said.
The man got out of his vehicle and fought with officers during the traffic stop, the release said. Police will ask that he be charged with operating while revoked and resisting arrest in addition to the count of operating while intoxicated.
He is being held in the Sheboygan County Detention Center on a probation hold.

Man convicted in murder of auto racer

PASADENA, Calif. A conviction today in the 1988 shooting death of auto racing legend Mickey Thompson and his wife.
A former business partner, racing promoter Michael Goodwin, was accused of sending hit men to kill the couple. They were gunned down as they left their gated Southern California home. He now faces up to life in prison.

Atlanta's airport is nation's busiest
ATLANTA For the second year in a row, Atlanta's Hartsfield airport had more flights than any other airport in the country. The government says there were more than 976-thousand take-offs and landings last year at Hartsfield. That's down slightly from 2005. A spokeswoman says Hartsfield ranks first because of its capacity and efficiency. Atlanta also added a new runway and more international flights last year.
Chicago's O'Hare was the second-busiest airport in 2006, with almost 959-thousand flights. Dallas-Fort Worth was third.

14-year-old becomes youngest to sail solo across Atlantic
ST. JOHN'S, Antigua At an age when many kids are busy playing video games or doing school work, Mike Perham spent his time on a very different pursuit.
At 14, Perham is now the youngest person to sail solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
The British teen set out November 18th from Gibraltar, and after a couple of brief stops for repairs, docked in Antigua today. Although he was alone in his sailboat, his father was behind him in another boat.
Perham broke a record held by a 15-year-old who sailed the same route in 2003.

Thousands of pieces of luggage waiting to be reunited with owners
LONDON You think you've heard all the horror stories about airlines losing luggage? Well, there are still people waiting for their bags from Christmas.
And it's not just a few. According to British Airways, it has "several thousand" bags waiting to be reunited with their owners. The airline says it all began when fog nearly shut Heathrow Airport in London during the holidays. Numerous flights were canceled. Then, making things worse, there were problems with a baggage belt.
At one point, British Airways says ten-thousand bags weren't delivered. The airline says it's now using cargo planes to get the wayward luggage to its owners.
