1790 - The U.S. patent system was established.
1790 - Robert Gray is 1st American to circumnavigate the Earth
1845 - More than 1,000 buildings damaged by fire in Pittsburgh PA
1849 - Walter Hunt patented the safety pin. He sold the rights for $100.
1872 - Arbor day 1st celebrated in Nebraska, later changed to April 22
1912 - The RMS Titanic leaves Southampton, England for her first and last voyage
1916 - The Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA) is created in NY City
1925 - F. Scott Fitzgerald published "The Great Gatsby" for the first time.
1932 - Paul von Hindenburg was elected president of Germany with 19 million votes. Adolf Hitler came in second with 13 million votes.
1938 - 99.75 percent of Austrians had voted to merge with Germany.

Bush and Cheney were sitting in a bar. A guy walked in and asked the bartender, "Isn't that Bush and Cheney?" "Yes, it is" replied the bartender. The guy walked over and said, "Hey guys. What are you doing here?""We're planning WW3!"The guy said, "Really? What's going to happen?" and Bush replied, "Well...we're going to kill 10 million Iraqi and one bicycle repairman". "WHY ARE YOU GONNA KILL A BICYCLE REPAIRMAN?" asked the guy very anxiously. Bush turned to Cheney and said, "SEE...I TOLD YOU NO ONE WOULD WORRY ABOUT THE 10 MILLION IRAQIS"!!!
