1760 - The great fire of Boston destroyed 349 buildings.
1868 - Jesse James Gang robs bank in Russelville KY of $14,000
1886 - 1st AC power plant in US begins commercial operation, Massachusetts
1896 - Marines land in Nicaragua to protect US citizens
1899 - At Sing Sing prison, Martha M. Place became the first woman to be executed in the electric chair. She was put to death for the murder of her stepdaughter.
1914 - The first international figure skating championship was held in New Haven, CT.
1916 - Albert Einstein publishes his theory of relativity.
1922 - The USS Langley is commissioned as the first United States Navy aircraft carrier.
1933 - The first German concentration camp was completed at Dachau.
1935 - "Your Hit Parade" made its debut on radio
1942 - General MacArthur vows, "I came out of Bataan and I shall return"
1942 - Holocaust: in Rohatyn, western Ukraine, on Friday, German SS murder 3000 Jews, including 600 Jewish children, annihalating 70 % of the Jews in Rohatyn.

2002 - Actress Pamela Anderson disclosed that she had hepatitis C.
2003 - U.S. and British forces invaded Iraq from Kuwait.

Farthest distance walked backward

The greatest exponent of reverse pedestrianism was Plemmie L. Wingo(USA), who completed this 8000 mile(12,875km) transcontinental walked from Santa Monica California to its been dual Turkey, from April 15, 1931 to October 24, 1932.

Longest fire walk
Gerard Moccetti(Switzerland) walked 165 feet 8 inches(50.5m) over embers with an average temperature of a 1,230̊F (665̊C) on January 19, 2003 in Ticino, Switzerland.

Longest time to endure full body ice contact
Wearing only a pair of swimming trunks, Wim Hof(Netherlands) was able to stand in a tube with ice cubes for 1 hour 7 min on January 23, 2004
