1776 - The Declaration of Independence was read aloud to Gen. George Washington's troops.
1846 - By an Act of Congress, the Washington, DC area south of the Potomac River is returned to Virginia.
1850 - Pres Zachary Taylor dies and Millard Fillmore becomes the 13th President of the U.S.
1868 - The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution ratified guaranteeing African Americans full citizenship and all persons in the United States due process of law.
1893 - Daniel H Williams performs "world's 1st successful heart coperation"
1918 - Great train wreck of 1918: In Nashville, Tennessee, an inbound local train collides with an outbound express killing 101 and injuring 171 people, making it the deadliest.
1918 - US Army's Distinguished Service Cross authorized
1943 - WW II: Operation Husky - Allied forces perform an amphibious invasion of Sicily.
1944 - World War II: Battle of Normandy - British and Canadian forces capture Caen, France.

2004 - In Baghdad, Iraq, 2 insurgent mortar shells targeting a hotel housing foreigners in the capital hit a house instead, killing a child and wounding three others.
2005 - Danny Way, a daredevil skateboarder, rolled down a large ramp and jumped across the Great Wall of China. He was the first person to clear the wall without motorized aid.

Expensive Doctors
A young woman wasn't feeling well, and asked one her co-workers to recommend a physician.
"I know a great one in the city, but he is very expensive. Five hundred dollars for the first visit, and one hundred dollars for each one after that."
The woman went to the doctor's office and, trying to save a little money, cheerily announced.
"I'm back!"
Not fooled for a second, the doctor quickly examined her and said, "Very good, just continue the treatment I prescribed on your last visit."

The longest game of softball played was 95 hr 23 min at Ed Janiszewski Park, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, Canada on 29 June - 3 July 2005.
Roman Rings Hanging Duration
Aratak Grigoyan held a technically correct azaryas cross position for 22.9 sec on the roman rings. The attempt was held at the Yerevan State Physical Culture University, Armenia on April 25, 2003.
